Truck Driver Weather Radar, Snow & Wind Map

View recent precipitation, rain and snow, and wind forecasts for interstate trucking routes. Check official DOT road closures and cameras before departure.

Live weather
Radar shows recent observed precipitation from NOAA/NWS MRMS. Wind speed and direction are NWS NDFD forecasts. Always follow official warnings, posted restrictions and carrier safety policies.

Weather for truck drivers: what to check before a winter trip

Snow, ice, freezing rain, strong crosswinds and sudden visibility changes can disrupt interstate travel. CDL Hub brings road-focused weather layers together with links to official state DOT/511 cameras and incident records. Use the radar above to see recent precipitation and the wind layer to review forecast conditions. A radar image is not proof that a particular highway lane is open, passable or free of ice.

I-80 snow and ice

Check winter road conditions along I-80 across California, Nevada, Utah, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. Mountain passes and open plains can experience very different conditions on the same trip.

I-70 Colorado mountain weather

Review CDOT road events and planned closures when driving I-70 through the Colorado mountains. Snow, traction restrictions and weather-related traffic delays can change quickly.

Wind and visibility on highways

High-profile trailers are especially vulnerable to gusty crosswinds. Look at forecast wind patterns and official high-wind restrictions rather than relying on radar alone.

How to use the radar and DOT reports together

  1. Check the radar: look for approaching bands of snow, rain or freezing precipitation across your intended interstate corridor.
  2. Review wind forecasts: wind forecasts are different from observed gusts. Follow posted restrictions for high-profile vehicles.
  3. Open the highway route: compare the forecast with DOT incidents, closures, road conditions and any available cameras.
  4. Verify the latest official status: conditions can change after a camera snapshot or radar image. Follow current state DOT/511 notices and road signs.

Truck-driver weather questions

Where can I check I-80 road conditions during snow?

Use the I-80 winter conditions page for the highway overview, then check the relevant state DOT or 511 source. Conditions differ across states and mountain passes.

Does the weather radar show black ice or road closures?

No. Weather radar estimates precipitation, not the actual road-surface friction or whether a highway is legally open. Use DOT road reports, closures and signs for those decisions.

Are the winds on the map current measurements?

The wind overlay is a National Weather Service forecast, not a guarantee of current roadside gusts. Be especially cautious with empty or high-profile trailers.

Can I see road cameras before crossing a snowy pass?

See our camera directory for connected DOT camera sources. Camera coverage and refresh intervals vary by state; unavailable images do not imply safe road conditions.
